Foteini Skoulikopoulou

Foteini Skoulikopoulou is a PhD candidate in the Armstrong group at the Leiden institute of chemistry. In 2018, she completed her undergraduate degree in Chemistry at the Kapodistrian University of Athens after completing her thesis related to medicinal chemistry. This was followed by an EU-granted Erasmus placement internship at Utrecht University where she worked on the design and synthesis of inhibitors for microbial glycosidases while applying carbohydrate chemistry. In 2019 she started her Master’s in Drug Innovation at Utrecht University where she completed her major internship in the group of Tom Wennekes while working on a method development for O-glycan release and labelling. Following that, she worked on her minor internship related to the synthesis of compounds against metallo-β-lactamase (MBL) expressing bacteria, in the group of Nathaniel Martin at Leiden University. In 2022 she was awarded the Master’s in Pharmaceutical Sciences and started working as a PhD candidate in the group of Dr. Zach Armstrong. She is currently working on the design and synthesis of carbohydrate mechanism-based inhibitors and probes for both human and viral carbohydrate modifying enzymes.
